More fair winners

Fair participants sold their cattle at the livestock sale while others brought home ribbons for their tasty creations.

Dakota Mclane (left) of Kenton was named champion of the youth ages 13-17 pie category on Saturday. She made a chocolate-covered peanut butter banana pie. McKenzie Ziegler of Kenton took reserve champion honors for her shoofly pie.

Amy Sheldon (left) of Kenton claimed the grand championship rosette for her white chocolate cream pie in the baked shell with filling added, without meringue, category in the fair pie show. Second place went to Janet Jones of Kenton for her double bottom blueberry pecan pie.

Alberta Hartshorn (left) of Kenton was awarded the grand champion ribbon for her strawberry cream pie in the cookie crust class at Saturday’s pie show. Colene Hauenstein of Ada took reserve honors with her Snickers pie.

Barb McKeen, West Liberty was the champion at the pie contest in the “other fruit” category. Her Roman Glaze Pineapple pie was named the best by the judges. The reserve champion of that category was Janet Jones, Kenton, with a Mango Pineapple pie entry.

Janet Jones (left) of Kenton captured the grand championship rosette in the graham cracker crumb category at the fair pie show with her coconut macadamia key lime pie. Alberta Hartshorn of Kenton was reserve champion with her vanilla custard pie.

Linda Wuethrich (left) of Kenton was the top prize in the cheesecake category of the fair pie show with her applesauce cheesecake. Receiving reserve champion honors was Janet Jones of Kenton for her buckeye cheesecake.

Several buyers helped Jordan Vermillion to a record $1,400 for her reserve champion dairy steer at the 2012 Hardin County Fair. They included Hardin County Tractor Pullers, Hepburn Feed and Supply, Layman Auction Service and Layman Farmers, Precision Strip, Quest Federal Credit Union, Walmart Store 5355 and Circle R. Corp.

Kody Creamer earned $850 with his reserve champion dairy feeder at the 2012 Hardin County Fair. He is a member of the Ridgemont FFA. His buyers included Carrie and Rodney Haudenschield, Cessna Transport, Hempy Water Conditioning, JB Tubulars, K&B Feed Service, Maple Brook Farms, BAM Fotography Studio, Mouser Hardware and Lumber, and Financial Matters.

Paige Trent earned $1,200 for her grand champion dairy feeder at Saturday’s livestock auction in the show arena. They buyers were International Paper and Quest Federal Credit Union. Paige is a member of the Lynn Valley Farmers.

Children ages 12 and younger got to showcase their pie-making skills at the fair pie show. They competitors included (from left) first place, Maitlyn Mclane, 6 of Mount Victory, with her chocolate caramel banana pie; Abby Hartshorn, 11, of Kenton, with her peanut butter pie; Anna Longbrake, 9 of Kenton with a peanut butter chocolate pie; and Jaelyn Tuttle, 11, of Forest, with a peanut butter pie.
